Renay Billiar: An engineer mainly deals with the fundamentals of the core or hardware aspect of a computer and software depending on what type of engineer you want to be. They are the ones who are in charge of the designs or either software or hardware integration. Technically they are involved in all aspects of computers. And what I mean by the "hardcore" fundamentals of a computer I mean they are the ones that design microprocessors, circuit design, and so forth.A Computer Technician however deals with PC installation, configuration and trouble shooting both hardware and software. Their job is to repair computers, operating systems and perform basic networking. They also have to have customer support skills and problem solving in a ! business environment. Hope this helps!...Show more
Bob Pucella: Go to school and get that degree in Engineering. I have been a Certified Electronics Technician for almost 30 years now and wish I had gone that route instead. The technician field is too crowded now. Plus there are kids these days 14 and 15 years old who have grown up building and working on their own computers. Add to that the fact that everything is so cheap to buy now that it is cheaper to buy a new part than it is to hire someone to fix it, and you can see that work gets harder and harder to come by. Engineering is different. You are working on the future. Things not even built yet. And getting more money to do so. Don't take the easy road. Put in the effort to get that Engineering degree and it will pay off in the long run 10 times over....Show more
Herma Ellebrecht: A computer engineer designs it and gets it running. A computer technician connects it to other equipment and keeps it running. E! ither one may build it.
