What is the difference between opera and theater?

Scot Sepulbeda: Musical theatre is a story with songs thrown in, where as an opera is a song with a story thrown in. Many operas are in foreign languages, like italian. and opera is all singing, with little or no dialogue that is not sung. Opera is like...telling a story with music. Musical theater is more telling a story through dance, words, and song.
